The Antler Night

Six Vikings, one stag with a lightning problem, a crypt that tried to poison the whole party, six deaths by fire, a bear with a grudge and a long night trip east. Replay the night on the map, or step through it one moment at a time.

19:34 – 19:53

The crypt that bit back

Four of them go into the skeleton crypt at (-620, -256). Two come out on a prayer and one doesn't come out at all.

  1. Sfin dies at the base

    While the crypt run is on, a Skeleton kills Sfin near Spuggeli's Crossing, with Spenglerian near him.

  2. Uggeli on 3.9 health

    Uggeli has already been through the crypt door once and survives a Skeleton on 3.9 health. He walks in and out of the crypt four times between 19:34 and 19:50.

  3. Spenglerian on 0.5 health

    Spenglerian takes a Skeleton hit of 15.6 and a Poison Skeleton hit of 15.2, leaves through the exit at 9 health and keeps losing 2.1 a second to poison. He is on 0.5 health at 19:46:03 and lives. Sfin drops to 13.5 inside at 19:48.

  4. Uggeli goes back in, and stays

    A Skeleton hit of 53 plus 21 pierce kills Uggeli inside the crypt with Sfin, Crusherina and Spenglerian beside him. His second death of the night.

20:25 – 20:30

Eikthyr in 37 seconds

The first boss of the chronicle. A week earlier the crew had 19 Deer Trophies and no altar visit. Tonight, Crusherina brings a stack of them and the stag is dead in well under a minute.

  1. Crusherina tries the Eikthyr rune tablet. Nothing happens.
  2. PiÑa puts a Bow on the deer altar. Twice.
  3. Crusherina offers the Deer Trophies. This is the summoning.
  4. The first hit lands. All six players are hitting within eight seconds.
  5. spira takes the first Eikthyr hit on a player, 1.0 damage.
  6. Crusherina takes a 21.8 hit from Eikthyr.
  7. Crusherina picks up the Eikthyr trophy and two antlers. 37 seconds from the first blow.
  8. Crusherina sets the trophy on the item stand at the spawn stones.
  9. PiÑa pokes the Elder and Bonemass stones. They are not ready for him.

20:33 – 22:13

The case of the burning Vikings

Six of the night's 24 deaths were by fire. The Greydwarf mages are in the frame, but not for all of them.

  1. The list

    PiÑa 20:33 (fire 27), Spenglerian 20:42 (fire 28 and poison 14), Sfin 21:10 (fire 31), PiÑa 21:15 (fire 15), Uggeli 21:43 (fire 65) and PiÑa 22:13 (fire 9).

  2. The mage clue

    A Greydwarf mage hits Sfin, Uggeli, Spenglerian and PiÑa (at 21:15) just before each of them starts to burn, and a Greydwarf Shaman's poison finishes Spenglerian. Uggeli's last seconds: a mage hit for 15.5, then fire ticks of 7.7 each second.

  3. The base clue

    PiÑa's 20:33 death at the first base and the 22:13 one at Spuggeli's Crossing have no monster anywhere near. Both times he is at the cooking station, standing in the fire pit under it, and burns down in a few seconds.

  4. PiÑa again

    Three of the six are PiÑa's. He also drowned and was clawed by a bear.

Verdict

Solved. The Greydwarf mages set four Vikings alight. PiÑa's two at the bases were his own cooking fire: he stood in it, twice.

20:56 – 00:41

The bears' evening

Bears kill PiÑa once and Crusherina twice and nearly kill Sfin twice. One ends up as a pile of hides, and the night ends with claws.

  1. Sfin on 2.2 health

    A bear leaves Sfin on 2.2 health at (-424, -616).

  2. PiÑa is the first victim

    A bear's slash of 34 kills PiÑa at (-502, -421). It is his fourth death of the night, and 35 minutes after his first.

  3. spira collects

    spira lands 14 hits on a bear at (-472, -411). At 21:17 he picks up two paws, eight hides and six meat in about fifteen seconds.

  4. Crusherina twice in 150 seconds

    A pierce hit of 92 kills Crusherina at (-664, -303). She respawns, walks 25 m, and a slash of 32 kills her again at 22:30. Whether it is the same bear, nobody knows.

  5. Sfin on 3.4 health

    Another bear encounter at (-415, -392) leaves Sfin on 3.4 health, and 5.4 nine seconds later.

  6. The claws

    In the last minutes of the night Spenglerian crafts three bear claws in a row and Sfin picks one up.

23:15 – 00:41

The long trip out

After 23:15 the crew scatters. Three portals are built, and Sfin and Spenglerian head east.

  1. "home"

    Spenglerian builds a portal at Spuggeli's Crossing and names it "home".

  2. Sfin heads east

    Sfin is at (74, 345) at 23:33, (424, 168) at 23:39 and (572, 111) at 23:45, heading away from the others.

  3. Uggeli, far north-west, one-shot

    In the opposite direction, Uggeli takes 107.7 damage from a Fenring mage in one hit, 2.1 km from the base.

  4. Beacon Hill, home again

    Spenglerian reaches (-765, 1786), the Beacon Hill site, builds a portal there and names it "home" as well. The two now link, and at 23:53 he takes the first jump, from the north to Spuggeli's Crossing.

  5. Uggeli versus the Troll, 62 seconds

    Uggeli is at the chests at 23:47:30. 28 seconds later he is about 150 m away, dead to a Troll blow of 87. He respawns, goes straight back and dies to a blow of 86 at 23:49, 15 m from the first spot. He never lands a hit on it. Crusherina does: 17 fire arrows from 23:48, and at 23:50 she picks up its ten hides, three troll bones and 59 coins.

  6. Sfin dies out east

    Five Skeleton hits kill Sfin at (697, -127), the furthest east point of the night.

  7. "East"

    Spenglerian builds a third portal at Spuggeli's Crossing and names it "East". Nobody builds its far end tonight. Why East, and who was meant to build the other side, nobody knows.

  8. Spenglerian goes east too

    From Beacon Hill he is at (-1157, 1141) at 00:04 and (542, 193) at 00:10, and an Elite Greydwarf kills him at (427, 68) at 00:13. He is back at Spuggeli's Crossing at 00:16 and east again by 00:22.

  9. A crypt in the east

    Uggeli survives a Skeleton on 7.2 health at (373, -132) at 00:24 and enters a crypt at about (391, -176) a minute later. At 00:28 Sfin, Uggeli and Spenglerian are all within 65 m of (670, -125). By 00:41 they are all back at Spuggeli's Crossing, where Spenglerian is placing forge extensions.

Glory and shame

Server rule: you may bring an old character and old gear, and the others may tease you for it. Gear that helps the whole server is exempt, and a wolf cape is borderline because it keeps the cold away.

Petteri was still away in Japan on a secret mission.

Spenglerian

Roadbuilder, portal-maker, poison survivor

Roads (209 paved and 152 mud pieces) and moving things between chests (1,201 items net in, 431 of them Coins).
Bad at
Taking hits: 357 of them, the most of the night.

Glory

  • Walked out of the crypt poisoned and survived on 0.5 health.
  • Built 613 pieces and three portals, including one at Beacon Hill.
  • 43 horse pettings, 8 treasure chests and 270 damage on Eikthyr, second only to spira.

Shame

  • Set alight by a Greydwarf mage at 20:42 and finished off by a Shaman's poison.
  • Killed by a Skeleton at (-506, -257) at 23:26:53, and back at the same spot 46 seconds later to survive another one on 0.4 health.
  • Fought the old guard's war with an old Bronze Buckler and a Fine Wood Bow.

Sfin

Bolt-maker, fence-builder, eastbound

Good at
Fences (102 placed) and ammunition: 100 wooden bolts, 40 flint arrows, 27 wooden arrows and 20 fire arrows.
Bad at
Skeletons. Two of his three deaths, and five hits of one at the end.

Glory

  • Survived bears twice, on 2.2 and 3.4 health.
  • Got furthest east, to (697, -127).

Shame

  • Killed by a Skeleton at the base at 19:37, with Spenglerian watching.
  • Took 100 Raspberries and 50 cooked meat from the chests and put back almost nothing (net -302).
  • Wore the Troll leather of the old guard.

Uggeli

Archer, crypt-diver, Troll's favourite

Good at
Arrows (270 wooden ones) and crypts: six dungeon entries, the most of the night.
Bad at
Trolls: two blows of 87 and 86 within 62 seconds.

Glory

  • Six dungeons and 52 km travelled.
  • Hunted wild horses (128 hits, four horse trophies), then named the first tame ones of the chronicle: Leikkele at 22:43 and Hörs after midnight.
  • Survived a Skeleton on 3.9 health in the crypt.

Shame

  • Six deaths, including a 107.7 one-shot from a Fenring far to the north-west.
  • Two Troll deaths 62 seconds and 15 m apart, without landing a hit on it.
  • First death: a Greydwarf Elite at 19:26, an hour and seven minutes in.

PiÑa

Bronze smith, bow donor, "help" champion

Good at
Bronze: 114 bars and 20 nails crafted, and 147 Coal and 108 Bronze put in the chests.
Bad at
Staying alive: seven deaths in 3.9 hours, the most of the night.

Glory

  • 114 Bronze for the team.
  • Six treasure chests opened.
  • His biggest hit, 77 on a Greydwarf at 23:47.

Shame

  • Offered a Bow to the deer altar. Twice.
  • Burned three times, twice by standing in his own cooking fire. Also drowned once, clawed by a bear and felled by Greydwarfs twice.
  • Sent 1,034 "help" commands from the controller's D-pad. Nobody knows why.
  • Wore the old Bronze armour into all of it.

Crusherina

Fletcher, summoner, the bears' regular

Good at
Arrows: 205 fire arrows and 178 flint arrows. Also staying alive: two deaths, the fewest.
Bad at
Bears. Both deaths, 150 seconds apart.

Glory

  • Made the offering that summoned Eikthyr and took the trophy.
  • Put the trophy on the stone at the spawn.
  • Took 108 Flint and 72 Coins from the chests for the arrow factory.
  • Avenged Uggeli: 17 fire arrows into the Troll that had just killed him twice, and its ten hides, three troll bones and 59 coins.

Shame

  • Tried the rune tablet first, to no effect.
  • A pierce hit of 92 and a slash of 32 from a bear at 22:28 and 22:30.
  • Troll leather head to toe, and a Troll Hide cape.

spira

Boar whisperer, Eikthyr's biggest hitter, hill builder

Good at
Hitting Eikthyr (538 damage, nearly twice the next player) and gentling boars: 71 successful pettings in nearly three hours.
Bad at
Sheep. He took 18 hits from them, and drowned.

Glory

  • Most damage to Eikthyr by a wide margin.
  • The bear loot at 21:17: two paws, eight hides and six meat.
  • Built 421 pieces on his own, from boar corner to the hill.

Shame

  • Four disconnects before he got in at 19:30.
  • Drowned at 22:54 half an hour after his last boar petting.
  • A 13.5 fall, a Wolf and then a Grizzly: two deaths in nine minutes on the hill at 23:44 and 23:53.
  • Fought it all in old Padded armour with a silver mace.
